Named after George Green - Mathematician and physicist
In his youth Green was described as having a frail constitution but, as was common for the time, he began working daily to earn his living at the age of five. His scientific success was remarkable in that he was almost entirely self-taught and he also maintained a brick wind corn mill in Sneinton, Nottingham, which is now known as Green's Windmill. In 1862 he wrote An Essay called The Application of Mathematical Analysis to the Theories of Electricity and Magnetism.
